Day old rice tastes best in stir fried rice because of its drier taste, but fresh rice will also work. Just add slightly less water than normal. Fry your vegetables and chopped meat in vegetable oil, then throw in your rice an season with some soy sauce, ginger, garlic and other spices of your choice.

Spices should be stored in an area with little light and low temperatures, like a pantry. Leaving your spices out will expose them to moisture and light, which will diminish their quality. Store spices in a dark, cool location to keep them flavorful and fresher for longer. Using fresh spices will make your food taste better.

Use sharp knives to prepare your favorite meals. You are more likely to injure yourself using a dull knife. It is more likely that you will cut yourself while trying to get a dull knife to cut something than when you use a well-sharpened knife.

When using garlic in your cooking, always purchase the freshest garlic possible. By having fresh garlic, it will taste sweeter. You can identify fresh garlic by its lack of bruising and firm skin.

When preparing mashed potatoes, mix the potatoes using hot, non-boiling water prior to mashing them. This causes the potatoes to become lighter and fluffier, compared to using cold milk. Boring, lumpy mashed potatoes are for the birds.

Take advantage of stackable cooling racks. If you are baking big batches of cookies, bars or other goodies, they can take up a large amount of space while they cool. This is why you should use these cooling racks so that you can have more space. By cooling your cookies vertically, the air is able to circulate around them without using up all of your valuable counter space.

Directions should be followed closely when you are making macaroni and cheese. This is the perfect way to cook the macaroni. The cheese will add the final touch. Use a solid face spoon when you serve to make sure you get plenty of cheese scooped up with the macaroni. Spice up the macaroni with some pepper!

Take care to not overfill your pan when you are sauteing. Too much moisture can cause food to steam rather than saute, affecting the crispness of the meal. Saute at a lower temperature as well.

As you are preparing mashed potatoes for a meal, be sure to use hot, but not boiling milk to stir in with the potatoes. The end result is lighter, fluffier mashed potatoes. Nobody wants to eat mashed potatoes full of lumps.
